TGIF among other things

Yesterday the kids and I went to work at the food bank in Penn Yan. Originally, Joe was not going to be home for Thanksgiving, so we went looking for something to do instead. The Council for the Aging was having a Turkey dinner that day and I called to see if they needed help serving or cooking or cleaning up. We were informed that they had that covered, but sure could use some help at the monthly food distribution. So, 3 of the children (Ben had track practice and then work) and I got there around 3 and offered our services.

First we had to unload this huge truck, put everything at the assigned place on tables throughout the room. Next everything had to be counted. Next, Gillian and I were given "stations". She was in charge of sausage and I had fish sticks. People came around with their boxes or baskets or bags and we put our item in. Matt and Jim helped people carry their items to their cars.

When all the work was done and we were walking out to the car, instead of the usual bickering over who got to sit where they were talking about people they met and how good they felt helping others. I was so proud of them. They really did learn the true meaning of Thanksgiving!

And you know what else? They asked if we could go back and work next month too.

Next, as promised I wrote down the names of everyone who left a comment on last Friday's blog and had Ben choose a name...The winner is: Deanne!! Congratulations and I hope you like the book. I'll send it out to you today!

Thanks to everyone who left a comment. I appreciate you participation.
