Good news and Bad news from the Garden

First of all the bad news:

There is an outbreak of powdery mildew on my squash and melon plants!!! ARGGGGGG! Fortunately, there is an easy and organic (sorta) solution to the problem

Make a solution of:
1 teaspoon baking soda1 quart waterA few drops of liquid soap and spray it on the leaves. I'll be doing that first thing in the morning!

The good news is: I have EGGPLANTS!!! YEAHHHHHH! I think I may try this recipe tomorrow or the next day: (recipe from the Food Network)

Grilled Eggplant with Garlic Sauce and Mint
Recipe courtesy Bobby Flay

1 tablespoon finely chopped garlic Salt and pepper 2 tablespoons rice vinegar 2 tablespoons soy sauce 1 tablespoon sesame oil 1/4 teaspoon red chili flakes 4 Asian eggplants, halved lengthwise Vegetable oil Chopped fresh mint or cilantro leaves
Make a paste by smashing the garlic with a little salt and add to a small bowl. Whisk in the vinegar, soy, sesame oil, and red chili flakes.
Heat grill to high. Brush eggplant with oil and season with salt and pepper. Grill until slightly charred and just cooked through. Slice each half into 1/2-inch slices and place on a platter. Drizzle with the vinegar mixture and sprinkle with mint or cilantro.

I am so excited to try this! I love eggplant, but you can't trust it. If it isn't really fresh it's pretty nasty! And what better way to make sure it is fresh then by growing it yourself? Isn't that cool? LOL
