Soaring Food Prices? Grow Your Own!

With the cost of EVERYTHING going up and up these days, I don't understand why more folks aren't putting in a garden to help offset the cost of groceries, just like most of the country did during WWII.
It's not that hard and with the books, seeds and soils available today even folks with out huge yards can grow at least some of their own food.
Aside from the money saved, you can grow organic and save your body from ingesting pesticides as well! Also, there's nothing quite as satisfying as serving food that you grew to friends and family! It's one of those things that just satisfies the soul.
While we're on the subject of souls, I also firmly believe that gardening, or anything done outside in nature, brings us nearer to God. Interacting with his creation, being a part of it, learning about the beauty and bounty around us, all of these things show us the wonder and magnificence of our creator! I am constantly awed by the colors, textures, shapes, smells and sounds created by God for our enjoyment and use. God is the ultimate artist!!!
If you need help getting started, there are just about a million books out there covering every gardening technique and theory there is. Here are a few to give you a start:
All New Square Foot Gardening by Mel Barthomolew
Crops in Pots by Bob Purnell
Four Season Harvest by Elliot Coleman
The Bountiful Container by McGee and Stuckey
The New Kitchen Garden by Jennifer Bartley
The Fruit and Vegetable Garden by Richard Burns
Come on! Give it a try! I guarantee that not only will you eat better you'll feel better knowing that you can feed your family like royalty, even while grocery prices go up and up!!

Amen to that. I have seeds started and will be picking up some plants soon. We even moved the garden to a bigger spot this year.
