what I did on the last day of 2006

I got up early this morning and sat down with the book Girl Singer; the autobiography of Rosemary Clooney. I wish I could have met her...we have a lot in common...We're both Catholic girls from Kentucky who married men called Joe and had 5 children.
I have always been a fan of her music and I loved her in Holiday in with Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye. Now I admire her courage, determination, and most of all her zest for life.
As much fun as performing is, I don't envy her her career ( my skin is no where near thick enough to make it in the entertainment world!) I found the descriptions of her friends, neighbors and associates fascinating! How incredible to live next door to Ira Gershwin, or go hang out with Bing Crosby or Tony Bennett! Talk about life with Ava Gardner or Billie Holiday! Have Bogart and Bacall over for dinner! Oh my goodness! What a way to live!
She wasn't perfect. Her life wasn't perfect. But she did the best she could. Loved her family.
And in the end, seemed to have not only perfected her craft, but found true happiness in her personal life as well. Not to shabby for a little girl from Kentucky, hu?
